What To Expect

1. Don’t assume bub will dive right in
All parents hope that their little one will dive in and make a mess of the cake. That’s what you are paying for! But that doesn’t always happen and that’s okay. Not every child wants to dive right in and make a mess no matter what tricks we try. It’s important to know that even if they don’t turn their cake into a gooey pile of crumbs, I am still able to catch fun images of them poking or looking at it in disgust. Sometimes we may need to strategically place a little frosting to help things along, or other times mum or dad may have to get involved in the pictures themselves.

Some bubs cry....Its fine, please don’t be embarrassed or stressed- your child is not the first or last baby to cry in front of a delicious cake. You have to remember, at home we stop our little ones from playing with their food- and then all of a sudden we are wanting them to “smash” the cake!!! This can be a tad confusing at first, no matter what we will get beautiful images...and you can always use the crying photos for their 18th birthday invitations. It’s also a good idea to bring along a favorite toy and some snacks in case your little one needs some encouraging.

2. Come prepared for one heck of a mess
One thing parents don’t often realise is that they too will likely become covered in cake and icing during the session (picture your little Miss or Mr running/crawling straight towards you with frosting coated hands,) so a change of clothes for everyone.. not just the birthday boy or girl is a good idea.

All child Cake Smashes include a FREE Scrub in the Tub, so you can clean your little one rid of Cake and Frosting!!!
Please make sure to bring a towel, change of clothes and if your little one requires special bath soap- please bring it along

3. Cake, Frosting Colours and Specific Dietary Requirements
A giant cupcake is included at no extra charge in the Sweet ($450) and Deluxe ($500) Cake Smash packages.
If you would prefer a "Naked Cake" I can provide one as an alternative. Please let me know upon booking if this is the type of cake you would rather go with.

The Giant Cupcakes are made in the chosen colours of your setup. They smash perfectly, taste delicious and look fabulous

The Giant Cupcakes are not dietary specific. IF your child has a food allergy, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE bring your own dietary specific cake. The Smash Cake provided includes Eggs, Wheat, Gluten & Dairy. The last thing I would want, would be your little one having an allergic reaction or getting a rash all because of the ingredients. Any cake will look great in the photos, please don’t put your child’s health at risk all for a few photos.

If you need to bring a dietary specific cake or would prefer to bring a cake of your own, $10 will be discounted from the chosen package.

Bright frosting photographs beautifully, with the exception of red. Why you ask? Well, let’s just say that when red frosting is smeared everywhere (and it usually will be during a cake smash session) it can look like a horror movie...get my picture? You can choose the colour to suit your little ones Cake Smash “Theme.” Pink, Purple, Blue, Green, White, Turquoise, Yellow and Orange look great!!!

4. Customise your session
I encourage my clients to make the cake smash session their own. I have many outfits to choose from, different coloured backgrounds, and accessories, and I am always willing to work with your own props, decor and outfits as well. I supply balloons, poms & bunting to match the colour theme you choose, but have had people bring chalkboards, custom banners, tutus, you name it! You can contact me any time to discuss what I have on hand.

5. Book in advance and please come on time
Book your session early so that you get the date you want. Cake Smash Photography books out QUICK!!!
Some parents want the cake smash pictures ready for their child’s birthday party to print out and display, if so please book your session least 3 weeks before the event.
Edits usually take around 2-3 weeks to complete. If you would like your Private Online Gallery edited and ready to view/download the following day, you can choose to pay the $50 RUSH FEE.

Once you are booked, PLEASE come at the time you have had allocated for the shoot!!

6.Deposit to Secure your Booking
A Nonrefundable $50 Deposit is required to secure your Cake Smash Photography Booking. If for any reason you need to change the date of your shoot, you are more than welcome to. I just need at least 24 hours notice.

Any less than 12 hours notice and you will have to pay an additional $40 upon reschedule to cover the cost of the second cake.
The deposit is NON REFUNDABLE. If you have a change of mind, the $50 can go towards a different kind of shoot but will not be refunded as the deposit secures your date and time not allowing for any other shoots to take place.

1-2 Days before your session, I will text you for confirmation of your Cake Smash along with the chosen setup and cake. If you fail to respond within 12 hours of your session, I will have to assume that your session will not be going ahead and will not set up for your session.

7. Refund Policy
Cake Smash Photography will not give a refund due to the mood of your child.
There are times when little ones don't cooperate, or smile like we wish they would. If your little one comes to the Cake Smash Studio and ends up being quite distressed while taking photographs and needs a breather, I am always happy for you to leave for a couple of hours (If time allows for this) and come back later on in the day when your child has calmed down at no charge to continue the shoot.
The Smash Cakes are made fresh for each shoot, and they cannot be re-used.

The only time a refund would be given once a Cake Smash had commenced would be if Cake Smash Photography's equipment malfunctioned and I could not produce the photographs.
